Because we're HAPPY - Thanks to Swedese

We've been working hard to expand upon our collection of Swedese products and we're pleased (happy even) to announce that the Swedese "Happy" range is now available to purchase online at Utility. That's not all though; we've also slashed prices across the range & deducted a further 15% in adding the entire Swedese collection to our Summer SALE

Roger Persson describes his furniture design as "a game with lines and curves" and this can be seen quite clearly in Happy; the smiling furniture family made up of dining chairs, stool, armchairs and sofas.
By adding soft surfaces and forms to an otherwise modern aesthetic expression, he creates a long lasting idiom. Like his other ranges for Swedese, happy is beautiful and functional - comfortable, practical, and possesses a special knack for fitting into all types of environments. We think the range is especially suited to commercial, retail or reception spaces.

"Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth".

New Classics from Gubi

This Spring sees the the reintroduction of the 'Paradiset' range of upholstery from Gubi. This set of three classical pieces was originally designed by Swedish modern architect and designer Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist for Nordiska Kompaniet in 1956-57.  She is remembered  for her ability to create designs for the modern home in the 1950’s without worrying about short lived trends and what other people thought - to stay true to her own unique and humanistic design vision. She often worked with her husband Erik Holmquist, and together they modelled and created the pieces together. A key aspect for the couple was always to test out their designs in their own home before completing a project. “I think both furniture and textiles, wherever they end up, must be kind, gentle and courteous, but without losing their character. They should have human qualities, not be pompous and only stand alone, but able to adapt to the environment they end up in...”

The Paradiset collection ((Swedish for Eden or Paradise) consists of three prices - the first piece was the Eva Armchair, closely followed by its masculine counterpart the Adam Armchair. To complement the two she later designed the Paradiset Sofa and Fig Leaf footstool. Collectively these pieces hold a soft simplicity, they are unique in their appearance - light, clean lines and gracious with an air of romance. Today her designs are highly treasured collectibles and rarely to be found on auctions - but they can all now be purchased online again in a range of Kvadrat, Gabriel and Fanny Aronsen upholstery choices.

SWEDESE Update Lamino For 2012

Swedese have updated the much loved Lamino Armchair & Footstool to include an extended range of fabric and frame options, the possibilities seem endless! We've fallen for Lamino even more which is now upholstered in either leather, sheepskin, tweed or Divina Melange in a comprehensive range of colours. Designed by Swedese founder Yngve Ekstrom in 1956, Lamino has sold all over the world and was voted the Twentieth Century's Best Swedish Design by Swedish interior design magazine Skona Hem. The refined timbre frame can be selected in either oiled oak or walnut and alternatively in ash with a 'lazur' finish in black or white which allows the grain of the wood to be seen through the colour. Lamino can be purchased together as an Armchair & Footstool set or separately as an Armchair or Footstool.

Kartell Magic Hole Chair and Sofa

Give your outdoor room a new look this year with the Magic Hole Chair and Sofa from Kartell. Designed by Philippe Starck and Eugene Quitllet the Magic Hole range comes in a three base colours (white, black or grey) with a contrasting or self coloured 'pocket' - the hole which gives the range its name. Far more demure and space saving than the Bubble Club range (Starck's previous outdoor sofa range), this is one outdoor furniture set you won't feel guilty about leaving out...remember that teak trend?
